Waste
Through the work Brakes has undertaken already, in 2007 Brakes will achieve a target of 30% of all waste being recycled.

Over 900,000 boxes are handled in the Brakes business daily so, naturally, packaging is one of our biggest opportunities to reduce our impact on the environment.

By actively reducing excessive packaging and introducing reusable packaging, we are able to ensure that the quality of the products is maintained while the volume of waste is reduced. For example, meat and vegetables are delivered to Brakes manufacturing site in plastic crates, which are returned to the supplier, cleaned and reused. Likewise, Pauleys uses ECO boxes, which are reuseable, durable and made from 50% rice husk and 50% plastic.

In addition, all our permanent vehicle washing units use recirculation systems that enables water to be used over and over again.
